In June 2015 we spent 4 days in Slovenia’s second biggest city Maribor. It is located south of Graz directly next to the Drava river.
At this time of year it is easy to find a good room for a low price because the winter season is far away and most people prefer the adriatic sea in june. So we get a nice room next to the racing track at the Pohorje Mountains.
The weather was great, a bit too hot during noon but anyway we started with exploring the city.
There are many medieval buildings around. Including the nice town hall (image above) and the Žametovka vine growing outside the Old Vine House. (image below)
All around Maribor you´ll find many nice places for a short walk or extended hiking tours.
The watersides at the Drava invite for a few more walks, a cold drink, delicious pljeskavica or some ice cream.
A beautiful hiking tour along the Bistrica River gave us some much needed shadow during the hottest day of our visit. We wanted to get a refreshment in a lido or any swimming pool at Maribor, but all of them were closed.
Maximale Höhe: 776 m
Minimale Höhe: 380 m
Gesamtanstieg: 719 m
Gesamtabstieg: -712 m
This tour took us about two hours for each direction with great views to the rive and its many waterfalls.
Maribor is the perfect city for a short weekend trip. It is located within some of the most beautiful landscapes of central Europe and offers many options for its visitors.
